History of the Cave Junction Farmers Market.
The Cave Junction Farmers Market (CJFM) began in 2013 with the help of the Illinois Valley Community Development Organization (IVCDO) and a USDA grant. What started as a handful of dedicated farmers, crafters, and a sprinkling of acoustic music in the gravel lot behind the Caves Chevron gas station, and moved to the parking lot, followed by the green grass of Jubilee Park in 2015.
In 2019, the Cave Junction Farmers’ Market was formally established as a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization. When relocation from Jubilee Park became necessary in 2020, during the pandemic, we gratefully accepted Ashley Boice’s generosity and moved the market to 24100 Redwood Highway, across from the Kerbyville museum. In 2021, the land was sold to Lana and Keith Hill of Rogue Truck Body, and the CJFM was delighted with the Hill Family’s community support, allowing the market to stay.

Live music, entertainment, educational programs and celebration of the arts has always been a part of the Market, and it gives a real special ambiance to the experience. Every year we experience the joy of watching the RiverStars dance. The market boasts a free weekly program for youth called “Cultivate Kids” where kids can experience hands-on earth friendly, inspiring gardening, and art projects. In 2023, Cultivate Kids planted a dozen shade trees and permaculture pollinator gardens, which were expanded in 2024 with additional beds to plant food crops, and a pathway ‘course’ made of tree rounds for the kids to play on.
The market has an EBT machine that can process Credit, Debit, and SNAP currencies, and offers two SNAP matching programs every year: Double Up Food Bucks and Protein Bucks. We are open Fridays from April through October. In 2024 we hosted our first THE Halloween Carnival, which was a huge success! We hope you will ‘Come Grow with Us’ in 2025.

“The CJFM has been a wonderful way of bringing our community together. Our rural community is spread out and the coming together every week to connect with one another in a safe space makes our place special. Growing food, caring for each other and sharing what we do is unique to our rural place. I'm looking forward to another great year working together. ”
